New tropical depression forms in eastern Caribbean as Nana loses storm strength over Atlantic

MIAMI (AP) _ The National Hurricane Center in Miami says a new tropical depression has formed over the eastern Caribbean even as what had been Tropical Storm Nana lost strength over the Atlantic.

The new tropical depression is the 15th of the season and could strengthen into Tropical Storm Omar later Monday.

As of 11 a.m. EDT, the new depression had top sustained winds near 35 mph. It center was located about 340 miles southwest of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and moving northwest at about 2 mph.

Far out in the Atlantic, Nana weakened from a tropical storm into a depression with top winds near 35 mph. Nana is expected to continue weakening and become a remnant tonight or Tuesday.
