The Morning Call Editorial Board
Meet the members
The Morning Call Editorial Board offers today its annual report to readers. "Meet the Editorial Board" is an attempt to be open about how the newspaper's opinion section is formulated and who is responsible for it.One reason we consider this important is that the editorials that appear on this page daily under the heading "Our View" are not signed. Most of the other articles in The Morning Call, from news reports to music reviews to opinion columns, carry the author's name. There are, of course, other important differences between the opinion pages and the rest of the paper. The reporters and editors who write and put together the news pages -- from the A section through sports -- strive to make their content unbiased. Those writers are supposed to keep their views out of their reports, but the opinion pages do not follow the same rules of objectivity. The editorials do represent the collective opinion of the board and are based upon reason, our philosophy and a regard for our historical views.
Usually, only one person writes an editorial. At The Morning Call, that would be Opinion Pages Editor Glenn Kranzley or opinion writer Eric Chiles. However, what the editorial says is the consensus of the editorial board. Other members of the board are Tim Kennedy, Publisher, President and Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Budihas, Vice President, Human Resources, Liza Mattison, Newspaper in Education (NIE) Supervisor and Sharon Repsher, Manager, Billing and Collections.
Something that does not change is that the board intends to be as open with readers as possible. It meets regularly -- a few times every week -- with people and groups about topics of public interest. The Lehigh Valley area is blessed to have public-spirited citizens who recognize that the newspaper is a corporate citizen that strives to be engaged in the debate on such issues, and that tries to offer leadership. The welcome mat always is out for those who want to be heard. Our contact information is on these pages every day, and it also is in the Opinion section of mcall.com on the Internet. We rely on readers to help us make these pages a spirited Lehigh Valley forum. Whether you love or hate what you read here, we encourage you to participate.
