Eric Chiles, Opinion Writer

I write editorials and edit the op-ed page. Prior to joining the editorial board, I was the newspaper's national editor from 1978 to 1990 and I have worked for The Morning Call for 30 years. My experience also includes working as a managing editor of a weekly paper in Delaware and serving as a Big Ten university science writer. These days, I write on statewide, national and international issues most of the time.

My wife, Gail, and I are parents of four grown children and are active members of Ss. Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church in Bethlehem. We are both natives of the Lehigh Valley.

An Eagle Scout, I volunteer with the Minsi Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America, serving as South Mountain District Commissioner and as an assistant scoutmaster. I'm a graduate of Penn State and Indiana universities, a poet, a hunter, an Appalachian Trail section hiker, a registered Democrat and super voter -- and an enthusiastic fan of Penn State football.
