On the third Saturday of every March a former airfield in Sebring, FL, becomes the home of the prestigious 12 Hours of Sebring. The endurance race is part of the American Le Mans Series and is considered a precursor to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France. Hendricks Field was built in 1941 as a training base for the military and in 1950 it was used for the first sports car endurance race in the United States. The race is known as a great place to party as fans can camp in the infield portion of the racetrack several days prior to racing. The infield includes a carnival midway as well as helicopter rides.
